Prevention program
Primary Prevention program:
The best evidence for prevention of T2DM, as we know comes from the randomized controlled trials of lifestyle intervention, which included modifying diet, physical activity and achieving weight loss. These interventions were done in high risk groups for developing diabetes which included individuals with IGT or pre-diabetes.[i]Population intervention programs will be important for low- or middle-income countries like Pakistan, as individual- level interventions would be very costly and unaffordable for us. Population based approach usually aim at reducing risk factors in the whole of population which may shift the distribution of risk in population.
Some studies have shown small changes in risk factors like physical activity at population level, can have significant potential benefits. The challenge we may have is to deliver such intervention at a population level cost effectively.
