Rapid scoring details and related algorithms

Know Your Risk (Mass Screening by using RAPID Scoring for general population).

Diabetes risk score ‘RAPID” is a validated risk score was developed by using simple parameters namely age, waist circumference, and family history of diabetes. It is a simple diabetes risk score was designed based on a set of variables that can be used for the identification of high-risk individuals without needing laboratory tests and physician interpretation thereby making it cost effective for national screening programs at primary care level for early intervention to delay or prevent type 2 diabetes in Pakistani population.

Using a simple questionnaire of RAPID score will help you to find out if you are at higher risk of developing diabetes. The recommendations for change in lifestyle according to the need of individual’s risk score will help you to make decisions about your health.

How to calculate RAPID risk score

People having RAPID score 4 or more than 4 points should have FBS/RBS/OGTT tests.

Diagnostic Criteria

Diabetes can be diagnosed on the basis of any of the following World Health Organization (WHO) criteria and American Diabetes Association (ADA) and IDF criteria:

  • Fasting plasma glucose: ≥126 mg/dl (≥ 7.0 mmol/dl) – Fasting defined as no caloric intake for minimal 8 hours, or
  • Random plasma glucose: ≥200 mg/dl (11.1 mmol/l) in the presence of symptoms or
  • Plasma glucose after 75 gm glucose load ≥ 200 mg/dl (11.1mmol/l) (modified oral glucose tolerance test).
